How to Choose a Surf Fin Shape
Fin shape has a big influence on how your board feels, each shape bringing something different to your surfing.

Classic for a reason
The name says it all. If you’re not sure where to start, this is it.
Balanced, versatile, and easy to get along with - it handles a bit of everything, from cruising to turns to the occasional nose ride.
A solid choice for most boards, most conditions, and most surfers.
Old school cruiser
The D-fin, great for that old school feel of cruising down a long peeling wave. Not great for turns due to the big surface area and not great for noseriding as they are generally quite short.
Recommend to use on classic shaped logs.
Hybrid performance
The semi flex, a blend of the all-rounda and the flex, suited for more of a performance board where turns will be the primary focus. Skilled riders will be able to perform noseriding with these fins. Suited for a performance board or for adding more performance to a more classic shape.
Noseriders dream
The Pivaat, made for noseriding! Nice and long so they sit deep in the water which allows for excellent control when on the nose. They will allow for turns but you will need to be right back over the fin. Suited for noserider boards or to give a more modern board more noseriding ability.
Tight turner
The flex, full performance fin, medium base tapering to a thin tip. Excellent for tight turns on a performance board. The flex fin will allow for a lot tighter turns and a more ‘shortboard’ feel. Suited for performance boards.
The 2 + 1'er
The old faithful, it’s the fin that will feel most familiar, it’s a smaller version of the all-rounder and is normally paired with two smaller side bite fins. It’s great for mid lengths/eggs/mals and can work great on performance longboards with a 2+1 set up. Not great for nose riding due to it being smaller but works great bringing more manoeuvrability to a longer board.
